When Science Meets Manga

Co-creating our future of AI with science communication between scientists and manga artists

Both manga artists and scientists are dreamers. While they use different tools and languages, their visions often converge. However, communicating complex and fast-evolving technologies like AI to creators is not easy. Manga artists don’t need to master technical details, but they do need the right kind of inspiration.

As someone who has worked as a story assistant across various manga genres, I’ve helped manga artists explore and understand themes such as AI ethics and technical concepts like reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF). This work led to an award-winning piece at the Niigata Manga Competition (see blog for details).

My goal is to explore how scientists and manga artists can co-create compelling sci-fi prototypes that envision socially responsible AI futures. This project will begin in 2026, with the start of my doctoral studies. I warmly welcome all forms of collaboration!
